Texas at West Virginia Free Basketball Pick

Reasoning: Texas entered the year as the single most inexperienced team in the nation according to our favorite cheat sheet for such at StatSheet. As we said, such teams almost always struggle out of the gate, then as their power rating drops, they improve and become a better and better bet as the year goes on.

Since an 0-3 start against the spread, they are a solid 10-7 including 4-1 their last five. WVU has been extremely erratic, going 0-3 straight up and 1-2 against the spread off an outright win. 

Much like their football team, West Virginia has struggled in the Big 12. Texas is showing their upside with two blowout wins over their last three, each by 13 or more. They also have very competitive losses to Oklahoma and Kansas.

Jonathan Holmes presents significant matchup problems for WVU inside. Sophomore guard Sheldon McClellan did have one of his worst games against WVU in the initial meeting, but he personifies how much Texas continues to improve. Look for the mild upset here.
